Description Polyisoprene is strictly a general term for polymers produced by the polymerization of isoprene. In practice, polyisoprene is commonly used to refer to synthetic cis-1,4-polyisoprene made by the industrial polymerization of isoprene. Natural forms of polyisoprene are also used in large quantities, most importantly "natural rubber" (mainly cis-1,4-polyisoprene) extracted from tree sap. Both synthetic polyisoprene and natural rubber are highly elastic, so they can be used to make tires and a variety of other applications.
Application Non-fugitive, reactive plasticizer, rheology modifier for lubricants, reactive binder.
Features And Benefits The trans isomer is more difficult than the cis isomer and has also had important uses in the past.
