Description Polytetrahydrofuran is mainly used in the synthesis of elastic fibers, such as spandex and polyurethane. In the latter process the polyurethane is first dissolved in the solvent as one of the precursors. When used in the manufacture of artificial leather, polytetrahydrofuran and isocyanate are the same raw materials, or react with other derivatives of isocyanate to obtain polyurethane
Application Commercially available polytetrahydrofuran has a lower molecular weight, between 250 and 3000. This product appears as a white waxy solid with a melting point of 30 °C. After treatment, high polymers with molecular weights above 40,000 can be obtained.
