Description 2-Ethyl-2-oxazoline is an oxazoline which is used particularly as a monomer for the cationic ring-opening polymerization to poly(2-alkyloxazoline)s. This type of polymers are under investigation as readily water-soluble and biocompatible materials for biomedical applications.
Application The polymerization of 2-ethyl-2-oxazoline can also be carried out as a living cationic polymerization.
Copolymers with other 2-alkyl-2-oxazolines and other monomers can prepare random and block copolymers.
The obtained copolymers can be used as biocompatible drug carriers for coatings and adhesives, among many other applications.
Elimination of propionyl groups from poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) yields linear polyethyleneimine.
Features And Benefits 2-Ethyl-2-oxazoline is a colorless liquid that is easily soluble in water, also soluble in various organic solvents, and has an amine odor. The aqueous solution is alkaline. The compound is stable in alkali, but hydrolyzes under the action of acid.
