Description Nylon 6/12 was developed as a low hygroscopic nylon.
Application Like other nylons, nylon 6/12 is easily modified with fiber reinforcement and internal lubricants to improve wear resistance and physical properties. Nylon 6/12 compounds are used in a wide range of applications including gears, cams, structural and electrical components. Nylon 6/12 is an ideal candidate for applications requiring good physical properties, high heat, moisture and chemical resistance, and good dimensional stability.
Features And Benefits The low hygroscopicity is due to its chemical structure; the more carbon atoms separating the amine groups, the lower the moisture absorption. Due to its lower hygroscopicity, nylon 6/12 does not swell like nylon 6 or nylon 6/6. The reduction in hygroscopicity results in a polymer with lower ductility than nylon 6 or nylon 6/6. Due to the reduced crystallinity of the polymer, the physical properties and HDT of the polymer are also lower.
