The Vibration and X-Ray Spectroscopy facility at Alfa Chemistry also has certain portable analytical instruments that can be used on-site when laboratory-based investigations aren't possible due to sample location, size, or fragility. Such outdoor research can also be conducted and supervised by our skilled technicians.
Bruker ALPHA Portable FTIR Spectrometer
The FTIR spectrometer is a simple-to-use and portable device with wireless communication capabilities. It has a battery life of more than 8 hours and comes with a transport box that may be utilized on-site, in the Alfa Chemistry analysis lab, or at other places as needed. After relocating the instrument, there is no need to recalibrate it. It is not affected by vibrations. As a result, the spectrometer can be used in a variety of settings, including fume hoods. It comes with two simple-to-replace sampling modules:
- Platinum ATR single reflection diamond - Used for solid and liquid samples
- External reflection module (ERM) - Used for non-destructive, non-contact analysis of larger samples (such as coated metals). The sample area can be viewed using the built-in camera

The spectrometer is controlled by USB from a tablet or laptop, and the resulting spectrum can be downloaded as a data matrix for multivariate analysis with The Unscrambler program.
