Contact Angle and Surface Tension Facilities

INQUIRY

The contact angle is the angle created by a solid, a liquid droplet, and air or another gas at their three-phase interface. Such measurement approaches can be used to calculate the surface free energy, surface tension, and interfacial tension between materials, as well as quantify the wettability of liquids on solid surfaces. The droplets can be made from any liquid that is appropriate for the system under test; for example, water will be used to generate data on the surface's hydrophilic/hydrophobic qualities. Detecting impurities on surfaces, assessing the wettability of composite reinforcing materials, and estimating the feasibility of applying coatings to surfaces are all applications of contact angle measurement. The surface free energy can be calculated by measuring the contact angle with polar and non-polar solvents. This is analogous to how liquids have surface tension.

Our Contact Angle Facilities

Drop Shape Analyzer DSA100E

Almost all jobs in the analysis of solid surface wetting and adhesion may be performed with the drop shape analyzer equipment. This device can range from a basic unit for precise contact angle measurement to a fully automatic instrument for surface free energy (SFE) series measurement. The equipment also contains a three-axis precision sample placement mechanism that can measure contact angles.

The tasks and applications that the instrument can do are listed below.

  • Surface pretreatment process characterization
  • Wafer and microelectronics quality assurance
  • Examine the cleanliness of the surface.
  • Examine the wettability of small surfaces.
  • Examine the wettability of materials like plastic, glass, ceramics, wood, and metal.

The measurement methods and settings available for this device are listed below.

  • The static contact angle, the advancing angle, and the receding angle are all different types of contact angles.
  • It can determine the angle of contact between a liquid and a solid.
  • To assess the contact angle and surface free energy of liquids, any popular model can be utilized.

Sample Preparation Guidelines Samples:

To maintain dimensional stability when measuring the contact angle of the film, prepare the film on a glass surface or other smooth template. Double-sided tape can be used to temporarily bind the film to the substrate for convenience.

It's worth noting that the film should be at least 1 cm X 1 cm in size and free of the indentations and surface imperfections stated before.

For contact angle measurement, the solid sample can be placed directly on the platform. However, the sample must be free of the surface contaminants mentioned above in order to produce valid findings. We also recommend that the user ensure that the sample is uniformly rough.
